What makes us take things certain people do, or don't do, so personally?
Compared to someone else doing the same thing and us not even thinking about it?

You know when there's that one person you like?
And maybe, for example, they don't take the time to talk with you
And you feel crushed?
Even though that person may not even know how you feel about them?
As opposed to someone who may be just a friend,
Who doesn't even say hi and you don't think twice?
What's up with that?

Or maybe they say or do something hurtful,
On purpose or not,
These people may not even truly know who we are
But we let them hurt us
They may not even be intentionally causing us pain

Why can't we let these things roll off our backs
And realize the pain we feel should only be blamed on ourselves?

That is beautiful and so on target. People can only hurt us if we let them.
People can only walk all over us if we let them......

I never let anyone hurt me. I feel that a lot of people are living their own personal hells.

An example is when you get a nasty clerk or waitress or, whatever. I just feel sorry for them, and be as nice as I can. Sometimes you can even make someone's day by smiling at them, and make them forget about their troubles, if only for a moment.

I never take anything personally.
